Building Efficiently - ComfortHome Program
The ComfortHome Program is a nationally-recognized, new home construction program designed to assist builders in constructing and marketing homes that offer superior energy savings and comfort levels.
There are now more than 120,000 homes across the United States that have been constructed by builders under the ComfortHome program. The program starts with a pre-construction plan review of your builder's plans that carefully evaluates the selection of all building components to maximize the economic energy and environmental performance of your new home and provides the information necessary to make energy smart choices.
Much of what our program requires, described in the table below, may seem to be things all builders should do and things all homes should have. The surprising answer is that the conventional code-built homes today are not built to these specifications and do not offer these benefits.
Some of these building techniques with scientific names like "air pressure balancing," or "infiltration control," may sound odd, but they can deliver significant results. A lot of our program requirements cover things inside the walls, so you can't actually see them. But you'll feel the difference in comfort and you'll see the difference in reduced utility bills.
Our premier level, the ComfortHome Certified Green program, includes more environmentally beneficial features and benefits, such as indoor water efficiency and appliance and lighting efficiency.
The program offers your builder different levels of participation. No matter which level your builder chooses, your home will have many distinct advantages over homes that are constructed to meet conventional code requirements. And for each, ComfortHome offers you limited guarantees on heating and cooling energy use and comfort. We're able to offer these guarantees because our program specifications make your home work as a system.
Federally-funded research and test studies prove that our technology is the most cost-effective way to reduce energy usage and assure maximum, consistent comfort in a new home.

ComfortHome Green Program
The ComfortHome Certified Green® program includes all components from the ComfortHome program and adds even more benefits in areas like indoor environmental air quality and water conservation.
Building a ComfortHome Certified Green home involves taking a comprehensive look at how a home is constructed. From the site and lot development to resource efficiency, energy efficiency, indoor air quality and owner education, all aspects of the home building process are considered to build a home that is ecologically friendly, sustainable and lower in greenhouse gas emissions.
The most influential factor in building Green is indisputably energy. In the United States alone, residential and commercial buildings account for:
- 72% of electricity consumption
- 39% of energy use
- 38% of all carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions
- 14% of potable water consumption
Since 1984, ComfortHome has certified more than 150,000 homes to high performance levels of energy efficiency and has received numerous environmental stewardship awards for our reduction in Carbon Dioxide. ComfortHome provides integrated solutions that incorporate the latest techniques in Green Building with the most cost-effective approaches to energy efficiency. Since 1984, ComfortHome has saved roughly 14,000,000 tons of CO2 through our residential energy efficiency programs.
Homes certified ComfortHome Green not only meet the ComfortHome program standards, they also meet the ICC-700 Green Building Standards formed by the American National Standards Institute to use less water, improve indoor air standards and use eco-friendly building resources and materials.
Among other accolades, ComfortHome has been chosen by the U.S. Department of Energy to review plans for the Solar Decathlon, has been awarded the National Environmental Awards Council Certificate of Environmental Achievement and have been certified as an E Seal Approved New Home Construction program by the Edison Electric Institute.
ComfortHome Guarantees

Performance Guarantee
The ComfortHome® Program Offers Limited Guarantees* on comfort and heating and cooling energy use.
ComfortHome is able to offer this limited guarantee on energy used for heating and cooling your home because the combination of efficient design, improved framing techniques, improved insulation systems and tight ductwork all reduce the energy used to heat and cool your home.
Those same building improvements also help ensure you won't experience a comfort problem—for example, a bonus room or bedroom that never seems to get warm enough in winter or cool enough in summer.
Heating and Cooling Energy Use Limited Guarantee*
ComfortHome Corp. guarantees the original homeowner that the energy used to heat and cool the home (as calculated in the account analysis) will not exceed the guaranteed usage listed on the front of the limited guarantee, subject to the terms of the limited guarantee. Since this is a limited guarantee of energy use and not cost, any reference to dollar amounts is strictly an estimate and actual costs will vary with the cost of energy.
Comfort Limited Guarantee*
ComfortHome Corp. guarantees the original homeowner that the temperature at the location of the thermostat in the home will not vary more than +/- 3 degrees from the temperature at the center of any conditioned room within that thermostat zone. If the home has a room that does not meet this limited comfort guarantee, EIC, inc. will reasonably assist your builder to identify the reason(s) for the temperature variance and reasonably coordinate with your builder to make changes or modifications to your home.
